ABOUT Lima

Lima is the capital of Peru, the largest city in the country with more than 9 million inhabitants, the third most populous in Latin America, located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, and was the most important city during the Spanish conquest. Today the country's political, financial, cultural and commercial activities are concentrated here.

Lima is considered a cosmopolitan city, which stands out for its multiculturalism and contrasts between the city's neighborhoods, and most importantly, because it is multi-ethnic, it has allowed a great development of tourism in the place.

Its historic center highlights the architecture of its buildings, archaeological centers, museums, art galleries as well as popular traditions and festivities that are celebrated. It is located between the districts of Lima and Rímac, and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 due to the importance it had in the Viceroyalty of Peru, traces of those times being found in buildings such as the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco  linked by underground passages with the Cathedral of Lima. Also around the Plaza Mayor is the Government Palace of the city.

Thirty minutes from the city center is the Miraflores district, one of the most modern and sophisticated in the city where there are endless panoramas, starting with the Larcomar area, this "open air" shopping center it’s built on the cliffs and facing the sea, inviting to be visited and with a wide variety of shops.

The nightlife of the city is lived in all its splendor, specifically in the Barranco district, which stands out for its more bohemian style, with numerous discos, lounges, bars, clubs and restaurants ready to receive all its tourists. This city has a lot of cultural wealth, because it was inhabited by pre-Hispanic native civilizations, in effect, archaeological remains can be found in the middle of the city called "huacas", which were where these civilizations lived, such as the Huaca Pucllana located in the middle of Miraflores, Huaca Huallamarca in San Isidro, Huaca Mateo Salado in Pueblo Liter and many more scattered throughout the city that are in excellent condition despite the arrival of the urbanization to the place and that are really a must see. To the south of the city, a few kilometers away is Pachacamac, a construction with Inca architecture that was born as a shrine to the Sun god or Inti.

Lima’s gastronomy stands out worldwide, with a fusion between Peruvian roots with Spanish cuisine, as well as French, Chinese and Sub-Saharan African immigrants. The quality and recognition that it has been given is so great that it has been highlighted as the Gastronomic Capital of Latin America on several occasions.

Its pleasant climate throughout the year, with low rainfall and a gray winter invites you to be visited at all times and discover its surroundings full of history and beautiful landscapes.
